The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre at Glenmore is good as you can get
really close and feed the reindeer, but it is a bit of a walk so
not suitable for young children. Just up from the Reindeer
centre there is an area for grass sledging, where sledges can be
hired in the summer.
The
Strathspey Steam Railway runs
several times a day from Aviemore to Broomhill, at certain times
of the year it holds special events such as Thomas the Tank
Engine days.
The
Landmark Centre
at Carrbridge is 18 miles from the lodge. This is a great place
for kids of all ages (including big kids more commonly known as
adults!). You can easily spend a full day here and can either
eat here or take picnic. Suggest taking a spare set of clothing
for kids as they can get wet on a couple of the slides.
Elgin
is 20 miles from the lodge, and has a good Soft play and
Swimming Pool.
A few miles north of
Elgin
is the beach at Lossiemouth, which is worth a visit if the
weather is good.
The
Glenlivet Estate
is good for children; there is a Visitor Centre at Tomintoul
where information on activities can be found out. There is a
free Adventure Playground just next to the Visitor Centre, and
on Wednesday and Thursdays there is a guided tour of Wild Farm,
where you can get really close to Reindeer, Cows, Sheep, and
Chickens etc.
